Working out which patterns suit you best comes down to a few core things:
- your style personality
- your silhouette
- your scale
- your height
YOUR STYLE PERSONALITY
In my view your style personality (likes and dislikes) always comes top of the list. You should always wear clothes that you feel 100% ‘you’ in, so if you don’t like patterned clothes, don’t wear them! If patterns appeal then read on …
YOUR SILHOUTTE
Your silhouette can make a difference to how patterns look. If you are curvier you may find that geometric patterns, like stripes and checks, can distort around a curve. So you’ll often find that patterns like florals, dots, squiggles and the like work better. If you have a straighter shape then you’ll often look great in angular patterns like stripes and checks
YOUR SCALE
Making sure that everything looks balanced with your natural scale can make a difference. You’ll generally look fabulous in a bigger pattern if you are heavy-boned, whereas a ditsy pattern can look too small. If you are fine-boned then the opposite generally holds true and you make feel that a bigger pattern overwhelms you.
YOUR HEIGHT
Similar to scale, if you are petite you’ll generally suit smaller patterns. Whereas if you are tall, you’ll more likely suit bigger patterns. Do think about your scale and height in tandem though as you may be petite in height but have a larger frame and so suit medium to large, not the smaller patterns for example.
I filmed this video for Spring/Summer’26 to show the patterns around for this season and explain who they will suit. Which appeal to you?
