I came across an article about heel height the other day which I thought was interesting and so I thought I’d share it. It suggests that you can calculate your ideal heel height by measuring the natural incline of your foot when it’s relaxed. Which makes sense when you think about it.
There are two different thoughts on how you measure it though, one suggests that you measure the incline between the ball of your foot and heel (see below) and the other (apparently recommended by a Podiatrist) suggests you measure from the tip of your big toe and heel. Whichever you use, it’s really all about trying to maintain a ‘natural’ position for your foot.
For me the answer was about 3.5″ … so I guess it’s confirming what I (and my pilates teacher!) already know – those 4″ and 5″ heels aren’t really helping my hamstrings or posture!
I’d love to hear if this works for you? Or if you know a Podiatrist let me know what they think about it too.
