It’s a scorcher out there today – over 30 degrees! So I thought I’d write a blog about how to wear ‘sunshine colours’ – the yellows and oranges that we typically associate with the sun.
It’s fair to say that most yellow and oranges generally have a warmer undertone so will typically suit you if you have warmth in your colouring characteristics – your skin tone, hair or eyes.
If you have strawberry blonde, auburn or rich warm brown hair, you will probably be a Warm+Bright or Warm+Smokey colouring type, meaning that the yellows and oranges will be fabulous on you. The more contrast there is between your hair, skin and eye colours the bolder the yellow and oranges can be. If your features are more blended, then the smokey, more muted shades like mustard or burnt orange will be perfect for you.
It isn’t only those with the very obvious Warm colouring that can wear these colours though. You will also suit the yellows and oranges if you have have any degree of warmth in your colouring, so if you are a Light+Warm, Deep+Warm, Bright+Warm or Smokey+Warm. It’s just that you will suit different shades of these colours and may wear them in a different way. So if your colouring is Deep+Warm, for example, you may find that the strongest of these shades will work best, and that often times you look better combining them with a dark colour from your palette. A deep khaki green looks stunning with a bold orange, for example. If you have Light+Warm colouring, on the other hand, then you will look lovely in combinations of the lighter yellows or oranges. If you want to combine them, then try wearing say a light primrose yellow with a light to medium depth colour like sage green.
If you have coolness to your look, then you will definitely need to avoid the very warm yellows and oranges. A cool yellow (one with more of a white hue) however, may well work for you, especially if combined with a cooler colour like a grey or navy, for example.
