Your best colours need to suit your physical colouring, but I passionately believe that they should also reflect your personality – who you are.
We all have likes and dislikes when it comes to colour, so its perfectly natural to prefer some colours to others or to want to tweak your palette of colours to make them feel like ‘you’. If I had £10 for every client that has told me that they don’t like a colour because it was their school uniform colour, I’d be rich by now! Maybe, like me, you remember someone telling you that ‘green is an unlucky colour’ (thanks Dad!) or that ‘red heads shouldn’t wear red’ (so not the case!) or that ‘blue and green should never be seen’ (it’s one of my personal favorite combinations!). Maybe you just like certain looks – monochrome perhaps? or you perceive bright colours as too garish and have a preference for neutral combinations? Or maybe you love bold and distinctive looks and like to wear bright colours as they lift your mood? All of these things influence how we feel about colours.
The example below shows how Softs (who generally suit the more muted, dusky tones) can brighten their look or conversely how those with a Clear bright look can tone theirs down a bit. On the left of each picture is a muted look for Soft colouring – simply choose the middle outfit to make it brighter. In the same way, on the right is a Clear bright look, which you can make softer by again choosing the middle outfit.
