Well the sun has made an appearance today and summer holidays are only round the corner for many of us now, so here’s a few tips on wearing a favourite summer neutral, white. It’s a great capsule wardrobe staple to build outfits around (think of it like your black/navy/grey/brown from your winter wardrobes). This season it’s been mixed with flourescents, brights, soft neutrals and the ever chic black and white combination – big on the Armani catwalk.
The good news is that as we haven’t seen much sun so far this year there are still plenty of lovely white pieces in the shops, many of which are on sale. So here is a quick roundup of ideas for work and leisure:
A great summer office dress – just add a cardigan or jacket if it needs to be a little bit more formal:
Label Lab Motif back dress from House of Fraser was £80 now £60
Or what about a riviera look like this – cropped jeans, tie shirt and wedges – just add big shades and a basket for your market shopping.
Therapy Cut work collar blouse was £35 now a great bargain at £18 There are some great crop jeans in both soft and bright colours, these from Oasis down to £32 from £45 come in coral, stone and a mint green. Paired with these toning snake espadrille wedges a fantastic bargain reduced from £140 to £56.
A white skirt can be a bit of an indulgence – and you have to be vigilant when eating – but it looks so fresh. A pencil shape with a neat jacket would be perfect for a smart event, or as I have shown below with two summer trends a peplum top in a sugar candy colour. A fuller skirt is great for casual holiday and summer days and I love a red/white combination.
Printed peplum top from Vila at House of Fraser £30 and pencil skirt in linen with cutwork detail by by Coast at House of Fraser reduced from £95 to £39
Red and White stripe to by Linea at House of Fraser down to £17.50 and embroidery hem skirt by Phase Eight at House of Fraser reduced from £69 to £34.50
Image top left Dress by coast was £110 now £39 and Fascinator by Coast reduced from £45 to £25, bag by Ollie & Nick £25 Shoes by Nine West £95 all from House of Fraser.
So, what are you waiting for … get those white pieces out of your wardrobe and maybe the sun will stick around (well, we can but hope!). Oh, and if it doesn’t put in an appearance, just create your own sunkissed look by investing in some self tan – I really like San Tropez Everyday … the first one I’ve used that hasn’t given me that stripey look! Enjoy!
